On Sunday, November 17, South Haven will have a special time as we are welcoming parents to dedicate their child or children to the Lord. The Bible gives us great guidance as parents on how we should raise our children:
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Deuteronomy 6:4-7
This could be one of the best verses when looking at dedicating a child to the Lord. As parents, we are called to lead our children in the ways of God and be great examples for them. No one is perfect in this, but through God’s grace, God helps us in our parenting and raising our children when we rely on Him.
Not only does God call the parent to raise their children, but He has designed the church to train up, love on and equip followers of Jesus. Jesus modeled this with children (Mark 10:13-16); as he took time to invest, love and bless them. Our children are truly a heritage from the Lord and we want to minister to families!
